Wrestling Struggles Early

The 2019-2020 wrestling season has begun.
This year, Senior Josh
Harkey leads the team as one
of the top five wrestlers in the
state. He is a dominant wrestler
that will be critical to Dana’s
success.
So far, however, Dana
has had a rough start. The team
has lost their first three dual
meets and have struggled to
win important matches.
Most recently, on
Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Dolphins faced the Laguna Hills
Hawks. Dana lost by a score of
12 to 67.
On Thursday Dec. 12,
the team competed against Yorba Linda at home. According to
the captain of the team, senior
Gavin Walker, “Christian Vargas started off the duel with an
early pin, earning 6 points for
our team.” After an early lead,
the team lost ground to Yorba
Linda and ended up losing by a
score of 28 to 34.
On Tuesday Dec. 10,
Dana competed against Aliso
Niguel at home. The team suffered another loss with a score
of 18 to 41.
Dana started off their
season with an away match
against El Toro. Senior Kadin
Carpenter commented, “We
were holding strong most of the
match and with a lead, and unfortunately, they came back in
the end and won by one point.”
The match was very close in
points the whole time, but at
the end of the meet, Dana got
edged out by one point with a
final score of 30 to 31.
Even though the team
has had a rough start, Carpenter
believes in the team. He elaborated, “We have a lot of potential this year and have many
matches coming up that we
hope to have success at.”
