Volleyball Loses in CIF

In CIF, the girls were seeded in a difficult match against Beckman, who finished first in their league with an undefeated record.

The Dolphins came into the CIF game with momentum following their win against San Juan Hills. However, Beckman quickly stifled their momentum in the first set. Dana lost the first set 15-25. Dana continued to battle in the second set, but they were once again overpowered, losing the second set 15-25. Dana’s loss was finalized in the third set with a score of 17-25. Beckman swept Dana 3-0.

Senior Maura Hayes commented, “It was a rough game. We didn’t have a lot of communication and we weren’t playing up to our potential.”

After their loss, the girls reflected on their season and their favorite memories.
Senior Vani Topalian remarked, “This season was very memorable. I have played for Dana since freshman year, but senior year definitely feels different. I am so happy and grateful with the success we had this season during league and making it to CIF. I will forever be thankful for the friendships and memories I have developed.” When asked about her favorite memory, Topalian said, “My favorite memory this season was when we all rallied and beat San Juan on Senior Night.”

Hunter Riedel had a similar response as Topalian, saying, “My favorite memory was beating San Juan on Senior Night.”

Avery Allemann recalled her sophomore year, where the team had a successful campaign in the preseason. She said, “My favorite memory was sophomore year at the La Jolla tournament where we won the tournament.”

Next year, the team will have to replace a lot of experience and talent. With four of the six starters being seniors, the team will have to cope with the loss of numerous key players. Head Coach Tom Hoff will look to rebuild the team and talent in his second year as head coach.
