Car accidents… Whether it be hit and runs, paint scratches or even dents, these are the most frequent accidents that occur at our own school parking lot. You would think one would have the decency to write a note letting the person who was hit have the knowledge of who did it, because it’s the responsible thing, but no. If you were the person who was hit, you would want to know who did it to confront them, but this is impossible. This is the main reason to place cameras in the student lot. It is well known that the set up as a whole is expensive and that the administration must have a reason as to why they haven’t put them in yet. According to Dr. Baker “ There is a cost factor to adding wireless cameras in the carport area, but can be something to look at as a sign of improvement. It’s not impossible.” Later in the interview he was asked where this funding would come from, and explained that:“Anytime we do sight improvements, first we have to see if it feasible… is it something we need, we have to determine that, and if it is will it deter problems or be able to identify issues… sight improvements funding can come from the school district, the PTA and boosters or private donations.” Furthermore Dr. Baker recommends for students to let the office know, and that they should take a picture of the car, the parking sticker/ number, in order to communicate about liability and insurance. With this, data is also an important measure for the office to take into consideration of adding cameras to the parking lots. Overall, the office should seriously consider adding cameras to the lot.
