The prince married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she took her title as the Queen. From then, the two lived a happy life, however, sacrifices had to be made. In the first couple of years of their marriage, Philip continued with his naval career. He was appointed as first lieutenant of HMS Chequers and promoted to lieutenant commander, and finally as the commander the following year. The news of Elizabeth’s accession to the throne changed his track of life. This caused him to sacrifice his career to be involved in the armed forces. Further, he stood by her side and eventually became known as the most prominently involved in the creation of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. In addition to this, he scored moments of the television and said memorable quotes that people until this day can remember.
His life was filled with challenges and blessings, and that all ended on April 9th of 2021 when Prince Philip passed. He had been admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London as a “precautionary measure.” A week later, Buckingham Palace reported that Philip was in the hospital for an infection. The palace confirmed that the infection was unrelated to the novel coronavirus, which he and the Queen had been vaccinated against in January 2021. Further, earlier this month, an announcement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.”
