NBA Championship: The Chip Returns to LA

Following the pandemic outbreak, the nation’s greatest basketball players gathered at Walt Disney World Resort, or The Bubble, to play for the championship trophy.

After just over a month, between the 22 teams in Orlando battling for the title, the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers came out on top. Jimmy Butler led his team alongside many young upcoming sensations, such as Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson, leaving people curious to see how the Heat would match up against Lebron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the Lakers.

The first game of the seven-game series was set for Wednesday, Sep. 30. This was an easy win for the Lakers: Anthony Davis’ 34 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists ended the game in an 18-point win. The two teams alternated wins during the next four games, with the Lakers leading the series 3-2.

The fifth game was a nail-biter, and left many Lakers fans upset. As the game came to an end, with less than ten seconds left, the Laker’s Danny Green missed an open shot to win the series, followed by another missed shot by Markieff Morris. This led to substantial  criticism towards these two players, as their missed shots kept the Heat’s chance for an NBA final alive.

Luckily for these two players, their mistakes were forgotten after game six when the Lakers ended the series, winning by 13 points. This made the Los Angeles Lakers powerhouse team this year’s national champions, earning every player and staff an NBA Championship Ring. Despite losing the finals, the Heat earned the respect of many athletes from their extraordinary run this season, especially considering the youth in their roster.

After a long celebration, the teams will begin to prepare for next year. The 2021 NBA season has high expectations, with many superstars returning from injury, and basketball fans around the world are looking forward to what could be the most competitive and entertaining season yet.
