This fall, word has spread among students and staff about Dana Hills’ National Merit Scholar semifinalist. Senior Charlie Gravitt is the honored student, qualifying based on his Preliminary SAT (PSAT) score. Gravitt scored in the top percentile of the state, making him a semifinalist with no need to apply. Only 16,000 make it to this level across the country. About half of them become finalists.
To go further in the competition, Charlie will need to submit his current SAT score, to ensure it aligns with his PSAT score, and an essay. If made a finalist, Gravitt would have the opportunity to be granted a scholarship from the National Merit Corporation or the college the scholar ends up attending in the fall of 2020. The National Merit Corporation is a third-party corporation that sponsors the competition.
There were a handful of commended Dolphins for the competition, but Gravitt was the only semifinalist from Dana Hills.
With an impeccable SAT score of 1550 and high hopes for his future, Charlie did submit an application to possibly become a finalist. His top college choices to be accepted by and attend are University of Chicago, Washington University in St. Louis, Johns Hopkins University and Emory University.
