Every year, the Teacher of the Year Award is given to the teacher who has had the greatest impact on the school, students and staff. Requirements for the award include having taught at Dana for at least eight years and the teacher must be a full-time employee.
On Friday, Dec. 13, Mr. Daly was given this prestigious award. He teaches the English, reading, writing and composition class, leads the after school homework center and has also spent a lot of time and energy making the English Language Development program stronger.
Fellow English teacher Mr. Sampson voted for Daly because of the “great amount of time Daly has spent getting resources to boost the ELD program and using these resources to help students at the homework center.”
Daly commented, “I was surprised to see that I won. I felt like this year was not my best year due to trying to learn how to juggle teaching and family life. However, it is great to see the effort that I am putting in and seeing my fellow teachers supporting it.”
Daly has helped Dana in many ways and was clearly a deserving winner of this award. He will now move on to compete against teachers within the district to see who will move on to compete at the county level.
