Imagine holding a packet of Sour Patch that you have just bought from the store. You cannot wait until you go somewhere where you can finally eat them and once the time comes, you open it up and dive right in. As you eat, you make sure to grab the flavors that you actually enjoy. Later on, when all the good flavors are gone, you see that you are only left with the extras such as the orange and yellow Sour Patch. It is within this moment that the thought of disappointment crosses your mind because you would much rather have the other flavors than the ones that are left. But why are they so unpopular?
It is true that fruits such as oranges and lemons are delicious on their own, but as candy flavors, they are never as enjoyable as the rest.
From their taste to their color, any candy that is either yellow or orange is the one that many individuals would rather not take. For instance, there are memes highlighting this issue that focuses on the Starburst candy; “don’t you ever let anyone treat you like a yellow Starburst. You are a pink Starburst.” With a saying as simple as this, it is clearly conveyed that this flavor is not one to enjoy. It is true that fruits such as oranges and lemons are delicious on their own, but as candy flavors, they are never as enjoyable as the rest.
Companies are aware of flavors their supporters appreciate the most. It is for that reason that they include these two flavors frequently in their products to make their customers come back for more. This method is useful in increasing profits, but can be frustrating for the individual who has bought the package and realizes that their favorite flavors are rarely there. Overall, it is important to note that some fruits should just remain as fruits where they can best be enjoyed, and not be turned into flavors of treats.
