After a summer of training, the girls golf team had high expectations coming into the 2019 season.
On Sept. 24, the team faced San Juan Hills High School and defeated the Stallion with a score of 225-237 at the El Niguel Country Club.
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Trabuco Hills traveled to El Niguel to face off against the Dolphins in their first league match of the season. The girls team claimed a victory, winning with a score of 225-246.
The team struggled in their away match at Beckham on Thursday, Sept. 12, losing with a score of 212-197. However, the day before on Sept. 11, the team demonstrated great technique and efficiency, beating the Patriots 208-217.
Against Mira Costa on Sept. 3rd, the team was coming off a three-match win streak. However, in a nail-biting match, the team lost with a score of 219 to 218. Despite the defeat, senior Lauren Wahlstrom showcased her impressive short and long game, hitting an exceptional 2-under par, the best individual score thus far.
After the loss against Mira Costa, Wahlstrom still remained optimistic, commenting, “I’ve been super proud of our team for these past matches. The teams we’ve played have been very competitive and we have been able to come back and still pull out a win almost every time. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully we can pull out a league victory by the end of it!”
Dana dominated against Capo Valley, accumulating two wins against the Cougars. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, they defeated Capo Valley with a score of 217 to 242. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the team amassed an even greater lead, winning 221 to 248.
Freshman Sydney Duvall earned the team’s top individual performances in both matches, scoring 3-over par on Aug. 28 and 2-over par on Aug. 27.
Midway through the season, Coach Forster applauded his team, especially on the athletic prowess of the younger players. He stated, “The girls are off to a great start with a 4-2 record and 1-0 on league. Duvall is off to a great start just a few strokes over par. Freshmen Zoie Fuentes is in the 3rd spot with a 42 average.”
The team has played well thus far, but more importantly, the team has many talented underclassmen, making them contenders for years to come.
