With the preexisting sensitivity of the Star Wars nation, fans are now urging that president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, be fired.
Earlier this year, Kennedy called for an up-and-coming Obi-Wan series to be delayed, as she was unsatisfied with its scripts. Instead of a summer premiere, it will be viewable in January 2021. The delay is a last straw for fans, following ‘The Last Jedi’’s disappointment.
Some hopes were lifted at the impressive production of the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian,’ so the public was anxiously awaiting the Kenobi series’ arrival, hoping that it would be equally awe-striking as ‘The Mandalorian’ and redeem itself from the failure of a movie that The Last Jedi was.
Now that Disney has announced that the Kenobi series’ premiere will be postponed, fans have had it. They ridicule Kennedy’s actions, voicing that nothing could be worse than The Last Jedi. The bottom line of many fans’ arguments is that they would rather risk the series being a disappointment than have to wait for it to air any longer.
This, piled on top of a less-than-mediocre second movie of the sequel trilogy, and other acts on Kennedy’s part, resulted in harsh tweets from across the nation. One upset fan asserted, “Bob Iger [Executive Chairman of Disney] should fire Kathleen Kennedy, scrap everything she’s done, and restart the whole Disney #StarWars era from scratch, starting with a proper #ObiWan movie followed by a rebooted (and planned out) Sequel Trilogy with competent writers & visionary directors. This is the way.”
Another complained, “They need to get rid of her. I reckon she’s poison for #StarWars. She’s just business all the way. She don’t really care about what she’s making money from,” explaining how Kennedy cares more about making money than impressing the fans.
To serious fans, the Star Wars world has come crashing to pieces, all at the fault of Kennedy. With a full-fledged online revolt, Kennedy’s career has been threatened. Whether Iger takes their advice and adopts a new head of the widely followed Lucasfilm is unknown to the world as of now.
