The portables on Dana Hills Campus comprise about half of the high school’s classrooms.
Chambers indoors are those of the gym, the porthole, SOCSCA, the Dolphin Café, Arts, English, Math, etc. Quarters continuing outdoors are sciences, foreign language, history, the weight room, and so on.
Students and teachers over the years have disclosed a preference to install actual rooms, like buildings, to replace the portables. Over the pandemic, Dana Hills was forced to accommodate the unusual 2020 to 2021 school year.
Money was put towards chromebooks so that students who did not own a device would have access to mandatory online activities.
The 2021 to 2022 school year demanded further flexibility. Steering clear of cross contamination, it is again obligatory all students have solely their own chromebook or computer. Accordingly, the school had no choice but to once again purchase more chromebooks in response.
In addition to online pursuits this year, further finances were also requisite for physical materials to resume in person school almost normally.
The latest Board of Trustee Meeting happened on Nov. 3. Of the numerous topics that were addressed, a rather highlight of the meeting is the approved architectural and construction management contracts for a new two-story classroom building at DHHS.
The ongoing project has been underway as a “regular business item” at the Board of Trustee Meetings. Ultimately, after some time, the order has finally become ready to be put into activity.
It has been drawn up that public presentations of this project, and essentially other plans for future improvements on school grounds, are planned for next year. Dr. Baker also mentions in an email to DHHS All Staff, who will “be included in the design process”, to “stay tuned for those opportunities.”
