Ava’s Acoustic Adventure

What’s something you love more than words can describe? Something that allows you to stand out from the crowd? Well, for freshman Ava Zaharek, this thing is music. Ava has been singing non-stop since the young age of 8 years old. It began with carelessly singing songs around the house all day to eventually learning ukulele and piano two years later, followed by learning acoustic guitar.

Ava says that her love for music really began to flourish after learning guitar.. Her carefree practice quickly turned to performing for people at the Irvine Spectrum, Laguna Beach and even the San Clemente Outlets. She says that performing and connecting with strangers through her music is a feeling like no other.

Not only does Ava perform music, but she also writes it! The first song she ever released was Gone at only 10 years old, followed by Magic when she was 12, and eventually Daybreak, which was released in October of last year. All of her original music can be found on her Spotify: Ava August.  She says that her personal favorite thing about writing original music is seeing it all come together after spending such significant amounts of time on it and seeing people enjoy it just as much as she does. She also enjoys seeing how drastically her voice changes throughout the years.

Music has brought Ava several incredible opportunities such as performing the National Anthem at the Angels Stadium and Staples Center, being the youngest contestant ever on The Voice, going on American Idol, and meeting several talented musicians that she looks up to.

Ava says, “I hope that everyone will tune in and follow my journey on American Idol this season! It airs on March 17th at 8 pm PST on ABC. It has been such an insane and surreal experience and I’m so grateful for it. The support I have received so far from the community has been amazing.”
